No Fears - No Regrets

Trail running and Ultra distance trail running predominantly utilise footpaths, track and trails and are off road events which require navigation using maps or the ability to follow hand written instructions telling you which direction to run and pointing out key features all along the route. Most of these races especially the Ultra events do not have race markings, but are held on official paths like North Downs way, Cumbrian way, West highland Way, etc. and some utilise canal tow paths like Grand Union Canal run etc. The feeling of freedom here is fantastic, almost as good as low key mountain marathons..!! but to run long distances predominantly through fields and mud has its own rewards. Often you pass through towns and villages without realising they were there, unlike main streets, the paths tend to flow through parks and lanes. These events are always low key and very friendly.... although you do tend to spend most of the time running on your own, some of the events have as little as 10 people who split up very early... but then some events have hundreds of competitors but both are very enjoyable experiences.... always look forward to the pie and chips or food at end where everyone gathers to chat about the course and other events. |
