No Fears - No Regrets

Finished in 12th place out of 40 experienced runners. the first miles were on road but from then on we were on footpaths and trails. The instructions were hand written notes and it was hard to navigate through the forest section as the tracks were hard to see and when informed to take third track on left, we were not certain what were and were not tracks.. many of us got lost here and had to backtrack as it was meant to be 0.5 mile.. after 10 mins you know you have well and truly missed the turn. The last 10 miles were through open fields often following the hedgerows, and the ground was rock hard dry.. unfortunately when the fields were wet, the cattle obviously stood around the hedgerows as 6 of these miles were the roughest footing I have ever run on... unless you have seen the imprints of a herd of cattle in soft mud then you cant imagine the density and number of foot sized 6+ inch deep holes with just an inch or 2 of mud separating them. but after this 6 miles, we were on a tow path and ran along a canal to the finish. Weather was nice blue sky with a few clouds. |
